Facebook may be blocked soon, Black Wikipedia

Today (Wed Jan 18, 2012) big internet open source giants are protesting as black Wednesday in response of SOPA and PIPA legislation bill being presented in US Congress.

The draft legislation Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and the Protect IP Act (PIPA) bill is presented for legislation which is being  highly supported by Hollywood, the Business Software Alliance, the music industry, the National Association of Manufacturers and the US Chamber of Commerce. This bill is aimed to protect the pirated material being used over the internet due to which copy right problem was in consideration of all above sectors.

After being part of legislation, many of open source websites will be blocked by the Govt. of USA.

To condemn this legislation, Google, Wikipedia, Yahoo, twitter and reddit are side by side. Today Wikipedia, a largest open source database is shutting down English version pages for whole day of Wednesday. Wikipedia’s main page is being displayed as under;

Text on Wikipedia page is like ;

“Imagine a World Without Free Knowledge

For over a decade, we have spent millions of hours building the largest encyclopedia in human history. Right now, the U.S. Congress is considering legislation that could fatally damage the free and open Internet. For 24 hours, to raise awareness, we are blacking out Wikipedia”

Reddit said it will shut down for 12 hours – from 8am to 8pm.

Google has incorporated some reflection of this legislation in US home page logo.

After considering theme of this draft bill, Facebook which has registered users more than the population of continent Australia, will also be the one of those victims. Material it contains is being shared openly by public billions of time in a day.

    It is very obvious that facebook will also be blocked.
